Heavy barrel Kentucky style flintlock rifle with “Maslin, Warranted” marked lock, ornate pierced Pennsylvania type patch box, silver inlays and escutcheons around the barrel keys circa about 1830s. The rifle measures 52 ½” overall with a 37½” octagon barrel that measures over 1 ½” across the flats and is approximately .60 caliber rifled weighing 17 pounds. The stock is well made with nicely falsed striped wood and shows a thick faceted butt plate with lock secured by two screws and nicely but lightly engraved brass mounts. The rifle shows a deep patina overall and the lock is in its original flintlock configuration with correct hammer and small parts. The metal condition is good and the stock shows somecarelessly splashed on paint, small losses around the tang, a missing inlay at the top of the wrist, and a few minor edge losses but is generally good to very good with considerable original finish and some darkening on the right butt stock frombeing close to a camp fire. There is a silver star inlaid into the cheek piece and a half moon into the stock. The rifle is equipped with a set trigger and the action is not working.
