This gun came out of an old collection in Northern California and the collector acquired many of hispieces over the years from the Northwest. Interestingly, the Clark County, Washington Historical Museum photo collection has a great image of a fishing camp scene with men around a tent identifying one of the participants as a John K. Gaither with further notation that Gaither was born Jan. 16, 1838 and died Feb. 15, 1918. Although not definitive, further research may prove fruitful as to the previous owner of this short rifle.
