Gwyn & Campbell Type II Civil War Carbine

Manufactured by Edward Gwyn and Abner Campbell of Hamilton, Ohio, with a total production of 4,000. This carbine has a folding rear sight, a sling bar with ring on the left side of the receiver and a lock plate screw entering from the left side of the stock wrist. The hammer is flat with beveled edges and the lever is the shorter Type II pattern with the vertically mounted claw-like latch. The lock plate is marked "GWYN & CAMPBELL" in an arch over "PATENT/1862/HAMILTON. O." (traces remain) behind the hammer. The serial number is stamped on the frame, barrel and breechblock. A cartouche (faint) is stamped on the left side of the stock wrist.

Good as partially refinished. The carbine has a artificial smooth dark brown patina with some minor pitting. The revarnished stock is good with some minor handling marks and a black stain on right side. Mechanically fine.
