Cased, custom bolt action sporting rifle chambered in .416 Rigby, built utilizing a Mauser magnum action circa 1952. Configuration: Blued finish, 24 1/2" medium contour barrel with quarter rib fitted with triple drop leaf express sights marked 50, 100 & 150 yards, ramped blade front sight with brass bead, right side receiver mounted Lyman sight base with blank inserted, Kollmorgen Bear Cub 4x scope mounted with quick detach rings & two piece base with integral flip-up peep sight in the rear mount, finely knurled trigger, Buehler scope clearance two-position safety, bright machine turned bolt with two panel teardrop knurling on the handle, internal box magazine with engine turned follower & hinged floorplate, Mauser magnum length action with machine turning on the right side where the extractor slides across it, swivel studs and figured walnut pistol grip shoulder stock with ebony tip, engraved crossbolt, hand cut point checkering, steel grip cap, gold oval escutcheon engraved "L.P.", beaded right handed pancake cheekpiece, red rubber recoil pad & 13 3/4" LOP. The barrel is marked "No 2092 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK". The serial number 54641 is found full or in part on the bottom of the receiver, trigger guard, floorplate, bolt sleeve, extractor and bolt release. The receiver ring also shows a "[crown]BV" Birmingham view proof. Includes a light brown leather wrapped locking trunk case with partitioned interior lined in purple felt. Case contains a nickel plated oiler bottle, two 10 round boxes of John Rigby branded ammunition, keys, front sight hood, cleaning brushes and cleaning rod. The gun case is stamped "Abercrombie & Fitch Co./ NEW YORK./ MADE IN ENGLAND." and has a brown heavy canvas cover. Rifle retains approximately 90% of it's original blued finish which has thinned in areas and shows some scattered handling wear & scratches. Action is very smooth, the bore is bright with good rifling & scattered light pitting, optics are clear with crosshair reticle, markings are crisp and the wood stock is very good+ with scattered small blemishes.
