Deluxe custom bolt action sporting rifle chambered in .257 Roberts, built utilizing a small ring Mauser action circa 1945. The bottom metal is ornately engraved with the work attributed to Griffin & Howe's in house engraver, Joe Fugger. Configuration: Blued finish, 24 1/2" medium contour barrel without provisions for sights, J. Unertl 10x fixed power scope with adjustable rings, finely knurled double set triggers, scope clearance safety with gold inlayed "FIRE" & "SAFE", hand "jeweled" bolt with two panel teardrop knurling on the handle, internal box magazine with machine turned follower & detachable floorplate, Mauser small ring action with engine turning on the right side where the extractor slides across it, engraved triggerguard, floorplate & grip cap featuring fine Germanic scroll with oak leaves & game scenes including a bobcat, fox with prey in its mouth, diving hawk & gold embossed woodchuck, swivel studs and lightly figured walnut pistol grip shoulder stock with horn tip, hand cut point checkering, steel grip cap, gold oval escutcheon engraved "FB", beaded right handed pancake cheekpiece and cartridge trap steel buttplate. The buttplate is fully engraved by Franz Mack, ornamented with tight scroll pattern and relief turkey. The barrel is marked "No 1754 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK". The serial number 922 is found full or in part on the bottom of the receiver, floorplate, bolt handle, bolt sleeve and bolt release. Rifle retains approximately 98% of it's original blued finish showing a few minor handling marks, losses around two filler screws on the receiver bridge where it was drilled & tapped and the steel grip cap turned plum. Action is very smooth, the bore is very good with moderate luster, optics are sharp with fine crosshair reticle, markings are crisp and the wood stock is very good++ with a small repair at the top of the wrist.
