Green Chevron Trade Bead Necklace C. 1800's
Included in this lot we have a six layer green chevron trade bead necklace originating from the early 1800's. The necklace features 86 green six layered chevron trade beads on a woven cord. Chevron beads are special glass beads; the first specimens of this type were created by glass bead makers in Venice and Murano, Italy, toward the end of the 14th century. Most of the Venetian chevron beads made for export to West Africa and to the Americas have layers in red, blue, and white with rare exceptions. The beads show layers of white, red and green glass cut into beads. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. The piece comes with an original museum collection tag stating, "8/98 Gr Chevron Disks $600" and "Neycamp 20". The necklace shows good condition with beautifully polished beads. The necklace measures approximately 27 1/2" in circumference.
