This is an exceptional hand carved wood canoe cup ladle from a Great Lakes Native American Indian. The piece is believed to be from the late 18th to early/mid 19th century. The piece shows a canoe shape cup with an incuse carved border and the handle being a four pane seeing window (said to be a window to the ancestors). The handle shows four square carved openings with incuse carved accents surrounding. The piece shows very good museum quality condition for its age. Early Great Lakes Indian carved ladles can be worth as much as $70,000 at auction. Only one other Canoe Cup Ladle has been sold publicly with this piece showing far more exquisite carving and design. The piece measures 6 3/8"L x 2 7/8"W x 3.25"H.
