Golden-age flintlock “Kentucky” rifle, unsigned showing fancy pierced and engraved Lancaster style patchbox with wide faceted butt and 18th century features. The rifle measures 58-1/2” overall, with 42” medium toslightly heavy weight barrel of approx. .52 caliber, 7 deep groove rifled. The rifle has been somewhat crudely reconverted to flint. The metal surfaces have been cleaned and show a grey patina with some scattered light tomoderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The barrel shows a additional dove-tail for sight, which is 12-1/2” further down the barrel as the original owner aged and became nearsighted. The stock shows replacement ofwood, heavy cleaning and sanding, and is only a fair to poor restoration. The cheek piece shows an 8-pointed Bethlehem type star in silver. The triggerguard is faceted to match the butt, the sideplate is lightly engravedwith two screw-holes. There is a silver plaque inlaid at the wrist. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers and the stock is very restorable and not sanded down too far. A good gunsmith could bring this
