Golden age Kentucky signed J.P. Beck showing beautifully raised carved scrolls and in classic motifs with wood patch box cover and elegant styling along with well-preserved stock showing most of its original color and finish. This arm shows a half round to octagon barrel and measures 59 ½” overall and is approximately .45 caliber smoothbore. The lock is an excellent and almost imperceptible reconversion. The metal surfaces remain in very good condition for their age with just some minor erosion and slight staining with minor pitting. The stock is exceptional showing just some minimal natural age and remains near excellent overall with well-defined and crisp raised carving. The rifle is also carved around the tang and shows good quality molding. J.P. Beck was located in Dauphin County Pennsylvania and made arms about 1785 to the early 1800’s and the Beck family were in the top tier of early Pennsylvania makers. Provenance Walt O’Connor and Ed Lower to William Serri and now consigned by his heir. Est.: $35,000-$70,000.
