For your consideration is a Rare First Edition of "Going Texan: The Days of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo" by Geoff Winningham, 1972. An account of the 40th annual livestock show and rodeo held in Houston, Texas in 1971. A striking collection of black and white photographs taken by Winningham at the Livestock show. The book was the first of many collaborations between Winningham and the sociologist William C. Martin, who wrote the text. This book was never widely distributed and remains very uncommon. Known for his book "Friday Night in the Coliseum", Geoffrey Lea Winningham (1943-) is an American photographer, journalist, Professor of Photography Rice University, and filmmaker best known for his photographs and documentary films focusing on Texas and Mexican culture. This brown cloth bound hardcover is in very nice condition, slight scuffing exhibited along edges. Intact pages exhibit slight age tanning, no other marring observed. Measures 9.75"W x 13.25"L x .5"D, weight 3lb, 2oz.
