Germanic or Dutch mid-17th century flintlock military style musket, brass mounted, signed “H. Boyne” on lock. .79 caliber, 42-1/2” barrel, 58” overall. Brass mounted in good original condition. The metal surfaces show a deep brown patina finish, scattered light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion. The heavier areas around breech of barrel and firing areas. The metal surfaces are generally good with crisp signature. Thestock is good with some small losses around the lock and tang. Some small losses, gouges, normal military wear and use. The brass mounts show a good uncleaned patina. The buttplate is period inscribed in blockletters “R. N. 9” which is obviously a regimental or unit marking. The gun is in its original flintlock configuration with correct small parts. The sling swivels have been removed long ago. An old period ramrodis retained. There is also numbers engraved at the left front of muzzle which appear to read backwards “SN58”. There is a break and small loss to the front band. Many of these continental arms were used during the
