German drilling with rare American agent marking on top of rib “Charles Hummel & Son San Antonio TX”. 12ga over approx. .38 caliber, nicely engraved action, select walnut stock, in good overall condition.Serial #T3214, made approx. 1890’s. A hand written letter of documentation states this gun belonged to “My Father”, Frank M. Hicks of San Antonio Texas, who was born in 1890 and may have previously been owned to F. M.Hicks II. In summary, F. M. Hicks II was a surgeon who moved to San Antonio in 1887. Hicks’ family was involved in the wholesale grocery business and cotton brokering near Shreveport, LA. Hicks provided the funds for erecting the Hicks building on Houston St. in San Antonio, which is the first building to have an elevator. Two of the early Hicks’ sons were attorneys and Marshall Hicks was mayor of San Antonio from 1898 to 1902. Frank Hicks III was the last owner to use the gun and his accomplishments are detailed in the letter. Virginia Hicks states that her father (Hicks) married her mother in 1931 and he used the gun for turkey hunting. The Hicks
