German Model 71/84 Spandau Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #4828, 11mm x 60mm Mauser cal., 31.56" barrel, blued and in-the-white finish, drift adjustable inverted "V" fixed front sight and tangent rear sight adjustable to 1600 yards, Imperial German proof marks, with 8-rd. tubular magazine. Dated 1888, made at the Spandau Arsenal, selector for single shot or magazine feed, all visible numbers matching, straight grip walnut stock with three barrel bands, front band with side bayonet lug, stacking rod, and steel buttplate. Condition is excellent retaining most all of its original blued finish on the barrel, with some dried grease residue, scratches on the upper two barrel bands, freckling on the trigger guard strap, and light scratches and dings on the trigger guard bottom and sides. Receiver and bolt are in the white and show dried grease residue, light freckling, and minor age graying. Action and safety function properly, but a bit sticky due to the dried grease; bore is bright, with light soiling that should clean to very good. Stock shows minor dings, scratches, scuffs, and clear stamped proofs and markings. Buttplate shows light rust spots and dried grease residue. Most of these 71/84 Mausers did not see much action, and this example is in mostly unissued condition after 130 years. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
