German Model 1888 Commission Bolt Action Rifle, #6620m, 8x57mm cal., 29.4'' barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock, inverted ''V'' front sight and notched folding leaf rear sight. Marked on receiver ring with (faint) ''(crown)/SPANDAU 1890'', with an additional ''S'' stamp indicating arsenal conversion to fire the later Spitzer bullet. Marked ''GEW 88'' on left side receiver rail. Mismatched numbers. Missing cleaning rod and cover on bottom of magazine well. Condition overall is fair with most of the finish worn off, turned to a mottled brown patina, with old scattered light pitting. There are a couple of small dents in the barrel jacket. Stock is good with dents and other handling marks, and a sliver of wood missing from the left side forend at upper band. Action is smooth, bore is poor with rust. Est.: $150-$250.
