This is an exceptional rare work of art by Georgy Gurianov from the Florence Series and is entitled Giambologna’s Ocean. This exact piece sold in a two piece set, “Bandinelli’s Hercules and Giambologna’s Ocean from the Florence Series” at the Russian Pictures November 2017 London Sotheby’s Auction for $10,000 USD. Georgy Gurianov (1961-2013) was a very well known Russian musician and artist. Gurianov was a cult figure in the Leningrad underground scene of the 1980’s and 1990’s and was a drummer in the rock group Kino. He was one of the more notable artist to emerge at the end of the Soviet Union art movement: the New Artist and the New Academy. The original work of art is done in pencil and aniline dyed on paper laid on cardboard and is hand signed and titled in Russian at the bottom along with being dated 1998. The back of the frame bears a Russian seal and is also hand signed by dated by the artist. The second piece in the series has since been lost following the death of its collector and owner, Edward Bazinet. Provenance: From the prominent Ex-art collection of Edward Bazinet, the founder of Department 56, the piece was proudly displayed at his 5-Bar-6 Ranch in Paradise Valley Pray, Montana where a portion of the movie, A River Runs Through It was filmed. The measurements of this framed picture are 28" x 22" and the measurements of the visible art are 19 3/4" x 14".
