Featured in this lot is a limited edition print by renowned Montana artist Gary Carter titled "Roche Jaune". Gary Carter is a West Yellowstone, Montana artist. He is a part of the Cowboy Artist of America and was adopted by the Crow Tribe and Real Bird Family and made a member of the Big Lodge Clan, given the Indian name of “Eagle Man”. This is a limited edition reproduction print that portrays mountain man John Colter traveling into Yellowstone Country, where he is credited with being the first white visitor to the area. The area was known as "Roche Jaune" or Yellow Stone because of the yellowish rock formations in the canyon of the Yellowstone River. Because this was a 'no-man's land' for Native Americans, mountain men found this a safe haven, even in winter, when animals were attracted to the warm waters and good winter feed. This print is signed in the bottom right hand corner "Gary Carter" and is numbered 619 out of 850 in the bottom right hand corner as well. The print comes with a Certificate of Registration & Authentication as well as an artist's commentary. The print shows Carter's wonderful art style and attention to detail. Overall this print is in good condition with slight browning marks towards the bottom on the paper border. The art measures 16 1/2" x 35" W. The total print measures 20 1/2" L x 39" W.
