This shotgun has a Gallager patent carbine action that is marked with the two line 1860 Gallager patent marking and three line Richardson & Overman marking above the serial number, likely a late post-Civil War conversion. The underside of the barrel towards the breech is stamped with European proofs including a Liege ELG proof. The shotgun barrel has a 2 1/2 inch chamber and choke gauges modified. The barrel also has a 20 inch long rifle barrel insert which gauges at approximately .44 caliber. The long gun retains the Gallager carbine stock which has a patch box on the right side and a faint cartouche on the left side with the saddle bar having been removed.

Condition: Fine as post-war converted to shotgun. The barrel retains 85% blue finish the balance a smooth brown patina. The receiver, hammer and lever retain 60% original case colors. The period refinished stock is fine with a small crack near the buttplate tang and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
