GOOD 1795 TYPE III SPRINGFIELD MUSKET DATED 1810

Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 43 1/2" w/ “P”, eagle head & “V” proofs along w/ “US” at rear. Standard configuration. Type III lock w/ integral rounded pan frizzen w/ straight tail, feather spring w/ spear finial & cock w/ straight top spur is marked “US” over eagle over “SPRINGFIELD” in front of cock & “1810” on tail. Walnut stock w/ deep fluted comb attaches to bbl. w/ 3 spring retained bands. Trigger guard has rounded finials & sling loops are attached w/ screws. Buttplate is dated 1810 on tang. The initials “AL” are deeply carved on right side of butt. Inspectors marks are faintly visible at tail of triggerguard tang. “US” is stamped behind sideplate. CONDITION: good to fine. Iron parts retaining nearly all relatively smooth brown patina. Some cleaning of bbl. at breech end. Bbl. & lock are still in original flint configuration. “V” assembly mark is on all parts except for old cast replacement cock. Stock shows old oil refinish over numerous bumps & nocks. There are no major wood losses except for a chip at the top rear of lock. Bbl. channel is good. Old trumpet head ramrod is present. Bore is pitted. Lock is operable. (01-20143/MGM).
