This lot features a pair of original bronze bookends by G.C. Wentworth titled "Sculptor & Painter". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. One of the bookends shows a sculptor with a hammer and chisel creating a buffalo sculpture. The other bookend shows a painter standing at his easel with a palette and brush in hand. The bookends are made from solid walnut hardwood with a brass placard that reads "Sculptor G.C. Wentworth" and "Painter G.C. Wentworth". Each one bears the signature of the artist with a date of "1982" and is numbered 2/20. The bronze bookends are in very good condition. They measure 6" x 10" and are 11" tall. Comes with a printed biography of the artist and a Certificate of Authenticity. The original gallery retail price of $3,000.
