This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bear cub bronze sculpture titled "Scratchin' Cub". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This piece shows a young bear cub in a whimsical pose. The sculpture rests on a solid walnut hardwood base with a brass placard that reads "Scratchin' Cub G.C. Wentworth". The bronze shows the artist's signature. It is dated "1983" and is numbered "AC/30" (Artist Copy) of which there was only one AC made for this edition. The bronze sculpture is in very good condition. It measures 4" in diameter and is 3.5" tall. Comes with a printed biography of the artist and a Certificate of Authenticity.
