French St. Etienne Production Revier Flintlock Fowling Piece with Gold Inlay
A fine sporting arm, made in St. Etienne circa 1782-1819. Brass rectangular front sight post, lowered flush with the barrel, and a wide "U" shaped rear sight, with an engraved torch and horn design on top, gold accented punch dot engraving and a small gold filled proof on the rear flat. An attractive gold wash is present on the flash pan and touchhole, with a punch-dotted gold band behind the hammer, "Bizafion Revier/ a St. Etienne" ahead of the hammer, and pan, light pan engraving and roller frizzen spring. Fancy tiger striped half-length stock, with sling swivels, wood ramrod, raised carved accents at the rear pipe and guard, silver wire inlay on the reverse of the lock, straight checkered wrist with a "W" inscribed silver diamond on top, and a smooth buttstock with fancy wavy border and a spring loaded trapdoor compartment.

Condition: Fine, with a mixed brown patina on the barrel, mild handling marks, and over half of the original gold. A bright gray patina with dark accents has formed on the lock plate, with a mild dent on the tip of the frizzen. Stock is good, with cracking of the buttstock, pressure dents, a number of small holes in the varnish, fine aged wire and strong carving. Mechanically very good.
