Freed-Eisemann model NR-800
This set was the top of the line for a company famous for the quality of its products. They were all hand built and so few were made that no record of their numbers were kept. Its state of the art technology featured both neutrodyne and Latour circuits, which in combination with its loop antenna, allowed it to be tuned with a single dial. A built in meter in the front panel allowed the user to monitor all battery voltage levels to insure peak performance at all times. The set was so nicely made that it has a mirror built into the underside of the top so that when operating with the top up the operator could enjoy a reflected view of the nickel-plated interior. Bringing this set back to life was the most time consuming and difficult restoration I have ever personally undertaken. While the radio was found in Nebraska, its loop antenna was found in Little Rock, Arkansas. 20 or more years of rats nesting inside and having been drug across a flea market parking lot on its top had really taken a toll. Removing the rat’s nest revealed 14 coins dating back as far as 1900. Other artifacts such as WW II ration coupons and photographs were also discovered and have been preserved in a separate frame. Removing several layers of white paint revealed the beautiful hand matched diamond veneer patterns on the front panel. The coins found inside are framed and will be sold with the set
