Framed Warrant Voucher, Made Out to and Signed By Legendary Lawman William  Bill  Tilghman
Seated in a frame measuring 14 7/8" wide and 27 1/4" tall with a rosewood veneer and raised designs, the voucher (Form 26) was made out to then-Deputy U.S. Marshall William "Bill" Tilghman, for the capture and return of one James Carlin, accused of culling timber on government land. The warrant was issued January 30, 1897, and executed February 10, and the voucher includes a notarized report of fees and expenses, totaling $12.74. Tilghman, born 1854, spent time as a buffalo hunter and saloon owner before entering law enforcement, and participated in the Dodge City War, served as a Deputy Sheriff with Bat Masterson, served as a Deputy Town and Deputy U.S. Marshall out of Gutherie, Oklahoma, was elected to the State Senate, served as Police Chief of Oklahoma City, and even wrote, directed and starred in "The Passing of The Oklahoma Outlaws", a movie about his anti-outlaw exploits. In the frame along with the voucher is a small portrait of Tilghman, and a certificate of authenticity from University Archives.

Condition: Very good. The upper section of the voucher shows 2 small holes and a tiny tear, along with short tears on the fold lines and a few stained spots. The frame shows mild wear.
