This professionally framed RMS Lusitania display features an original letter head from the ship with a photograph of the ship. The letter head is hand dated 1911. The wood frame measures 15 7/8 inches x 18 5/8 inches. Accompany the display is the German propaganda medal commemorating the sinking of the Lusitania. The medal has the first obverse with the incorrect May 5, 1917 sinking date and the reverse is signed "K G" for the German medalist Karl Goetz. The RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner that served with the Cunard Line beginning in 1907. During World War I, the ship was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-20 on 7 May 1915. The sinking of the vessel killed 1,198 of the 1,959 people aboard, is cited as contributing to the American entry into World War I, and became an iconic military recruiting campaign symbol explaining why Germany had to be defeated.
