Flintlock full stocked rifle with I.P. Moore lock, .69 caliber, 42” barrel, browned finish, brass mounted, checkered wrist, with U.S. marked socket bayonet, sometimes called a New England musket, in overall very good condition with crisp action,majority of brown finish remaining on barrel, very good wood with escutcheon at top of wrist showing “ALB” initials; socket bayonet has TA inspection (per consignor, early U.S. inspector Thomas Annaly. Accompanied by note from consignorindicating obtained from an old dealer in Shreveport, LA. 55 years ago who reported the gun came out of an old plantation house in Georgia. The consignor also noted the gun was loaded when he bought it with lead shot that was hand droppedand wadded with newspaper; he removed the load but the paper was too far gone to find a date.
