Flintlock boar sword with forged steel grip probably German, circa late 18th century and right side of barrel marked “L.R.” with lightly engraved blade showing traces of gold gilt. Illustrated pg. 123-124 “Blades &Barrels” by Gordon Frost. Formerly Frank Bivens collection and C. Henricks. The piece measures 27-3/4” overall, blade 22 -1/4”, barrel approx 1-1/2” and gun portion 3-3/4”. The barrel shows a cannon type muzzle and is approx 32 cal smooth. The blade is reinforced at the back and it attaches to the guard thru a slot in hilt. The oddity was made as a unit during the period and is original. The condition is good to very good with some very light pitting and normal age. The action is working and all small parts are original. From an old New York collector’s estate. Est.;$1,500-$3,000.
