Flintlock Horseman's size pistol with silver mounts and silver inlayed barrel circa mid 18th century of Germanic origin. The pistol measures 19-1/4" overall with approx. 12-1/2" barrel of 64 caliber smooth bore. Thebarrel shows remnants of a damascus pattern and metal surfaces show a dark brown patina finish and some light to moderate pitting and erosion. The stock is nicely raised carved around the tang and mounts with qualitymolding work in the wood. The stock shows some small losses, minor imperfections, normal aging. The pistol is in its original Flintlock state, a horn tipped ramrod is included which matches the fore end cap well. The silver mounts show a hand engraving on the trigger guard and around the lock plate screws. Seldom are these big pistols silver mounted and we would date this Flint at about 1740-1770. Est.; $2,500-$5,000.
