Manufactured in 1861, the first year of production. The Model 1862 was the last of the Colt percussion revolvers. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA", "COLTS/PATENT on the left side of the frame and "36 CAL" on the left trigger guard shoulder. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, wedge, cylinder and arbor pin. The loading lever is un-numbered. Stagecoach holdup scene roll engraved on the rebated cylinder. Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a smooth one-piece varnished walnut grip. Colt manufactured approximately 19,000 of these revolvers and many were used for metallic conversion making them scarce today in original configuration.

Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 40% original blue finish with a gray and brown patina on the balance showing some minor pitting on the muzzle end of the barrel. The loading lever and frame show 30% original case colors with a smooth dark patina on the balance. The back strap and trigger guard retain much of the original very dark silver plating in the protected areas of the bow and on the top of the back strap, with a dark aged patina on the balance. The grip is fine with much of the varnish. The cylinder scene is mostly visible and the markings are clear. The action is excellent.
