Fine quality silver Scottish powder horn circa early to mid 19th century showing finely engraved body mounted with large ivory cabizon in bottom and silver chain. The entire flask is made of silver except forspring which is steel. No hallmark which indicates the owner supplied his own silver. The front of the horn shows a knight with sword, Scottish lion holding sword with knights crest at center and two mottos withsmall engraved panels. One motto reads "Non Sine Periculo" and shows a highland warrior. The other motto reads "Virtute et Valore" and shows a hand coming up from lake holding wreath. The flask measures approx. 9" fromtip to plug and approx. 2-1/4" across the diameter of base. A very impressive and high quality horn that should be researched as it is sure to have association to a Scottish Lord or peer of the realm. Only example ofthis style we have seen. Est.;$4,000-$8,000.
