Fine quality late 17th to early 18th century French flintlock, horseman sized, pistol signed “Tanguy Le Guern Paris”. The pistol measures 18-1/2” overall with 12” barrel, of approx. .50 caliber. The lock is beautifully engraved in floral motifs with angels and serpents. The barrel shows excellent quality and gold inlay and engraving at breech, of which approx. 30% of the gold remains. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration. The handle has been broken at the neck and repaired. The top jaw and screw are good quality replacement. The top of the hammer is a good restoration. The stock shows an expert splice and repair to the forend which is almost undetectable and done by a master gunsmith The sideplate is raised silver and pierced, secured by two screws. The trigger guard and butt are plain iron. The stock is nicely molded and carved with floral at the tang. An elegant early pistol by a master maker. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
