Fine Texas Shipped Engraved Pre-War Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Relief-Carved Ivory Grips

Estimate: $6000 - 9000
Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Colt factory letter that states it was shipped to the Skelton-Payne Arms Company in El Paso, Texas on April 23, 1919. The letter states that the revolver has a 4 3/4 inch barrel with blue finish. The type of stocks are not listed. This revolver was subsequently custom engraved and finished in full blue with casehardened hammer. The engraving consists of bold open scroll-work on a stippled background that approximates Colt "B" engraving coverage. The revolver is fitted with a one-piece ivory grip with relief-carved eagles on each side. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "COLT'S PT. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." in two lines in a panel with engraved borders. The caliber designation "45 COLT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel in an engraved banner. The two-line/three-date patent markings and Rampant Colt trademark on the left side of the frame have engraved borders. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "523". The full serial number, "337294" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "94" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The Colt "triangle/VP" proof mark is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. An assembly mark "1" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and the left rear trigger guard bow. A Colt six-pointed star rework mark is stamped on the right rear trigger guard bow. The revolver is complete with a custom wooden fitted case with red velvet lining and a cartridge block that contains 12 .45 caliber cartridges.
