This fine example of a Sharps No. 2 Model 1874 Long Range Rifle was manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut, circa 1875 to 1879. The 34 inch full octagon barrel is marked "SHARPS RIFLE CO. HARTFORD CONN" on the top flat with "CALIBRE 44" at the breech. The left side of the receiver has the two line Sharps 1869 patent date. The rifle has a windage front sight with spirit level and a Vernier tang sight. The Vernier tang sight is numbered to the gun with the left side of the sight graduated "1-6" and the elevation bar is fitted with a peep cup. The underside of the barrel under the forearm is marked with the serial number (155229) and the number "4". The matching forearm is also numbered to the gun. The casehardened receiver has a single trigger with a checkered face and the underside of the receiver has the number "768". Blue barrel with remaining surfaces casehardened. The stock and forearm are varnished and are checkered with a pewter forearm tip, sight base on top of the comb, and checkered shotgun buttplate. The forearm has a Schnabel tip with multi-point checkered pattern on the center and checkering at the tip. The grip area is checkered including the bottom.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 90% original blue finish with edge wear and some minor thinning. The action retains 40% original case colors with the balance "silvered out" to mostly a silver gray patina. The lightly reoiled wood is very fine with some minor handling marks. The checkering remains crisp overall. Mechanically fine.
