Condition: Fine. The bright portion of the fine blade has scattered age spotting. 40% of the niter blue finish and gold wash is present on the engraved portion of the blade. The hilt retains 50% of the gold-plated finish. The pearl grip has some minor scratches and some discoloration on the reeded panels. The brass scabbard has a dark patina with traces of the gold plating in protected areas. The engraving is crisp. There are several shallow dents near the drag. This is an attractive example of a high quality militia officers sword that probably pre-dates the Mexican War (1846).
