Winchester Third Model Sporting Rifle with Cody Firearms Museum Fact Sheet. The fact sheet states that this rifle was received in the Winchester Warehouse on February 20, 1890. The configuration is listed as "Rifle", caliber "32" with octagon barrel and plain trigger. The rifle has a full length magazine and the barrel is fitted with a nickel-silver front sight blade and a sporting style rear sight. The receiver has the Third Model integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine, forearm cap and receiver. The loading gate and front sight are niter blue. The hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate have a color casehardened finish. The stock and forearm are walnut with a varnish finish. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS.NEW HAVEN. CONN.U.S.A./-KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29.1866 OCTOBER 16.1860.-" ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "32 W.C.F." is stamped on the top barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. "32 CAL" is engraved on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is roll stamped: "{ MODEL 1873}" in fancy letters with foliate designs at either end. The serial number, "331690B" is located on the lower receiver tang behind the loading lever latch.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains nearly 90% of the original blue finish. Finish wear on the barrel is limited to edge wear on the flats. The receiver has at least 85% of the original finish with some scattered pitting of the left side of the receiver and side plate and handling wear on the dust cover and upper receiver tang. The loading lever and hammer have at least 90% of the original casehardened finish. The case colors on the buttplate have aged to a deep brown patina. The bore is bright. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The stock and forearm retains approximately 85% of the original varnish finish and are in very fine condition with scattered, minor handling marks.
