Fine, Desirable U.S. Spanish American War Era Springfield Model 1896 Krag Bolt Action Rifle

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
This is a very fine example of an unaltered, totally original, Spanish-American War era U.S. Springfield Model 1896 Krag Rifle. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1896/SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number. Raised ramp front blade sight and folding leaf rear sight with curved base graduated to 6 on the left side and ladder graduated 7 to 18. The rifle is finished blue with casehardened receiver, loading gate and cocking piece. Mounted with a smooth one-piece full straight grip stock with a crisp boxed "JSA/1896" cartouche on the left side and a small "T" and circled "P" behind the trigger guard. The buttstock has the compartment, (cleaning kit not included). Most Model 1896s had the original rear sights removed and upgraded at some time during their service life. Completely original Model 1896 Krag rifles with the original 1896 pattern rear sights are scarce.
