Fine Civil War Savage Navy Model Percussion Revolver
Manufactured from 1861 to the mid-1860s with approximately 20,000 produced. Approximately 12,000 were made on government contracts. This particular revolver is martially inspected with the letter "S" on the right side front of the frame and on the right barrel flat near the breech. Standard three line address and patent markings on top strap. The serial number is marked on the frame under the grip and each grip panel is numbered to the gun. This unusual revolver employs Henry S. North's patent whereby the cylinder is first pulled to the rear by the large ring trigger, then rotated and moved forward to lock over the rear of the barrel. The hammer is cocked at the same time. The action is fired by pulling the upper more normal trigger. There is a post front sight and "V" notch rear sight, blue finish with casehardened trigger, trigger guard and hammer, and the revolver is fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips absent of any cartouche or inspection marks.
