Fine Civil War Contract Savage Navy Model Revolver
Manufactured from 1861 to the mid-1860s with approximately 20,000 produced. Approximately 12,000 were made on government contracts, while the balance of the sales were primarily civilian. This revolver is a government contract example with the standard three line address and patent markings on top strap, the serial number on the frame under the grip and sub-inspectors single letter "M", "H" and "T" on most major parts. This unusual revolver employs Henry S. North's patent whereby the cylinder is first pulled to the rear by the large ring trigger, then rotated and moved forward to lock over the rear of the barrel. The hammer is cocked at the same time. The action is fired by pulling the upper more normal trigger. There is a post front sight and "V" notch rear sight. Fitted with smooth walnut grips with each panel stamped with the number "6" on the inside and only a small portion of the box from the cartouche visible.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish mixed with streaks of smooth brown patina. The cylinder and frame show some traces of the original blue finish mixed with smooth mottled brown patina. There is a small amount of minor flash pitting on the upper portion of the frame directly ahead of the cylinder and a couple of very small areas of pin prick type pitting on the left side of the cocking mechanism. The trigger guard has a smooth dark patina. The grips are very good a small chip on each toe, a few minor chips along the lower left side edge and scattered minor dings and dents. Mechanically excellent.
