Fine British Third Model Brown Bess Musket with Bayonet
Bayonet lug front sight and shallow groove rear sight, with a "crown/ Gr/ arrow" and a crossed scepter proof on the upper left side of the chamber. Lightly border engraved lock plate, with "TOWER" marked vertically at the rear and King George III's "crown/ GR" royal cipher in front, along with the "crown / broad arrow" army property mark. Smooth straight grip stock, with brass forearm tip, ramrod pipes, trigger guard, reverse plate and butt, an iron ramrod with button tip, unmarked reverse plate, one sling swivel, "crown/ arrow/ 1805" on the right side of the buttstock and a flat butt. With a socket bayonet, marked "Osborn/ X/ 1" on top of the 16" triangular spike bayonet, "crown/ 4" proof, 3 7/8" socket and leather and brass sheath. With a pair of data cards from a previous owner, with information on the musket and bayonet.

Condition: Very fine, with a mixed patina on the metal components, strong amounts of blue on the lock and hammer, and scattered pitting and spotting. The upper tang is cracked at the screw, and some small cracks are visible on the hammer neck. Stock is also very fine, with a crack opposite the lockplate, a few other small cracks, pressure dents and dark spots. Bayonet is fair, with pitting and dings. Sheath is cracked and scuffed. Mechanically excellent.
