Estimate: $1100 - 1600
Federal Period Artillery Officer's saber with Ketland style cast Eagle head pommel, beaded stirrup-shaped knuckle bow, reeded bone grip, down-turned quillon with finial and 27 1/2 inch single fuller blade. The saber is complete with a leather scabbard with brass throat, suspension band, and drag. The throat has a frog stud and suspension ring. The blade has a 13 inch, niter blue panel decorated with gold-washed floral sprays surrounding stands of arms and trophies. The saber is English and pre-dates the War of 1812.

Condition: Very good. The saber shows moderate wear. The bright portion of the fine blade is tarnished and the edge has numerous nicks. At least 70% of the niter blue and gold washed decoration remains intact. The leather washer is missing from the hilt. The brass hilt has a dark age patina. The reeded bone grip is yellowed from age and handling but remains in very good condition. The black leather scabbard body has the usual flex marks and one weak spot near the drag. The brass mountings have traces of the original gold-plated finish in protected areas. The lower suspension band is loose. This is a good example of a War of 1812 period Artillery Officer's Saber.
