Fayetteville North Carolina, .58 caliber rifled musket dated 1863 with C.S.A. stamped at center portion of lock in good to very good condition. The metal surfaces show a smooth brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderateerosion and surface pitting. The lock is clearly marked and the stock is good with the initials J.M.L. neatly carved on the left side of stock. A large ā€œAā€ with lazy ā€œSā€ carved on the right side of butt stock. The mounts show Confederate arsenal brass color with deep patina. The stock is good with some oil staining, a couple of cracks, small dents, dings, weathering and losses around the butt plate but at least good to very good overall. The bore shows good rifling and a period ramrodis included. The sights and small parts are all retained. One of the better examples of these Confederate issued Fayetteville rifles we have examined. Refer Flayderman 10-035 where identified as type III without hump back profile to the lock and with stud for saber bayonet. William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $8,500-$17,000
