Factory Special Order Sharps Model 1878 Long Range rifle, .45-120 3-1/4” case, with factory target sight, Freund-marked More light rear hunting sight, with Freund-marked large blade front sight, blue and case hardened finish, checkered woodstocks, #6651. Factory letter states that this rifle was ordered on May 25, 1878 by E.S. Harris, with special sights and fitting which describes the aforementioned sights. This rifle was owned by a prominent New York City merchant who used it on hunting trips to Colorado and Montana in the 1870’s-1880’s and was acquired by our consignor from the descendants in 1971. Rifle remains in fine to excellent original condition showing 98%-99%+ original bright blue on the barrel withjust slight beginning natural age; frame shows 95%-98% case hardening slightly drifting and toning a very small amount, checkered wood stocks are also fine to near excellent with minor storage and use marks, light handling and minor use, butgenerally near excellent overall; markings are sharp, edges are crisp, bore is fine to excellent.
