Factory Engraved Sharps Carved Pearl (In Sultan of Turkey Crest) Model 2A Four Barrel Pepperbox Pist
Manufactured between 1859 and 1874. The frame features nice floral scroll engraving, with a punch dot background and a scalloped border on the breechblock. The backstrap has floral scroll designs and there are simple line, scallop border and burst designs on the butt. The left side of the frame is marked "C. SHARPS / PATENT 1859" and the right side "C SHARPS & Co. / PHILADA. PA". There is a floral pattern in the center of each marking. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrels and on the butt. The frame was silver plated and the remaining parts blue. The pistol is fitted with relief carved pearl grips with the silhouette of a bearded man wearing a turban on the left side and Turkish Crescent in the center of burst patterns on the right. The consignors notes state that this pistol was owned by a Sultan of Turkey and that the bust is the Sultan and his crest is on the opposite. Some research may prove interesting.
