Manufactured in 1902. This revolver features factory pattern scroll engraving on the barrel, alternating cylinder flats and frame, a shell design on the recoil shield, loading gate and top of the back strap, and simple zigzag line and dot designs on the top of the ejector housing, alternating cylinder flats, rear edge of the cylinder, back strap and trigger guard. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address, "38 W.C.F." in a banner on the left side and the two line, three patent dates an the left side of the frame followed by the circled Rampant Colt. Matching serial number on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the assembly number "410" on the loading gate. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with smooth pearl grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the 38/40 caliber, barrel length, barrel length, blue finish with gold cylinder at time of shipment, factory engraving and that it was shipped as 1 of 4 to J.F. Schmelzer & Sons, Kansas City, Kansas, c/o H. Herschfield on August 11, 1902.

Condition: Good as refinished. The frame has a smooth gray patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a brownish patina. With some bright muzzle wear. Cylinder is a replacement with recut engraving. The grips are a bit undersized and remain very good with a small chip on the right heel, and a few minor scratches and handling marks. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is fine.
