FINE PACHMAYR UPGRADED 20 GAUGE MODEL 21
WINCHESTER WITH 8 RELIEF GOLD INLAID BIRDS AND SCROLL BY RICHARD BOUCHER. Cal. 20 Ga., 2 5/8". S# 9972. Starting with an early Model 21 Skeet gun, Pachmayr Gunworks created this attractive upgrade. 26" Bbls. marked for Skeet 1 and 2, 3" triangles of scroll engraving at breech ends, central fields of which have relief gold inlaid birds in flight; quail on left and ruffed grouse on right. Breech ends have a gold band and muzzles have dual bands with looped extensions. Coin finished flat sided action features non automatic safety and gold plated single selective trigger. Engraved with attractive full coverage of scroll with gold scroll lined borders, as background for more vignettes of relief gold game birds in detailed engraved settings; a quail takes flight at rear portion of left side of action while at front another is flying over mountainous terrain. Right side depicts a grouse taking wing in woodlands at rear, with front scene showing bird in full flight. Bottom of action has very fine rendition of a pair of pheasant amid trees; pheasant in background is flying away while his compatriot, head thrown back, has obviously been shot and is falling to the ground. This scene is signed "Boucher" at right side. Blued trigger guard with matching scroll and gold borders portrays a retrievers head on bow. Serial number is in gold on tang. Fences are nicely semi relief engraved in floral motif which is repeated at bottom front of action & on trigger plate at base of trigger guard bow. Nicely crotch figured American walnut straight grip buttstock, probably original, measures 14 1/8 over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip and a large gold oval on toeline is engraved with monogram "RLW". Matching beavertail ejector forend is unbraced. Bore diameters: left - .0614, right - .615. Bore restrictions: left - .007 (Skeet), right - .003 (skeet). Minimum wall thickness: left - .032, right - .030. DAH: 2 1/8". DAC: 1 1/2". CONDITION: very fine, as custom finished. Metal surfaces retain over 95% blue and French gray with some high edge wear. There are only a few minor marks in stock finish. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight with forend installed. Right barrel is a touch off face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Trigger appears to work well. Richard Boucher did a lot of work for Pachmayr's and the quality of work on this attractive gun is very fine. (20-519/MGM46). CURIO. $7,000-11,000.
