Antique German made under lever side-by-side double barrel shotgun chambered for 16 gauge shell, signed "F. W. MORITS & SOHNE IN LEIPZIG". The Moritz family has a long history of gunmaking dating back to the 17th century. An ornate heavy large bore percussion target rifle by Friedrich Wilhelm Moritz was recently sold by Hermann Historica Auctions in Munich, Germany for $25,000. Features 31.5" fine twist damascus barrels with raised concave rib & inlayed silver bands near the breech, silver bead front sight, extractor, double triggers, cocked indicators, safety lever, blued receiver with hand cut Germanic scroll engraving including a punch-dot background & game scene on the trigger guard, carved horn finger rest, sling swivels, smooth walnut forend and checkered straight grip shoulder stock with right handed cheek rest and metal buttplate. The barrels display a very fine twist pattern with some scattered dark rust. The balance of the metal parts are blued and retain approximately 20% finish with the majority of the surfaces displaying an aged brown patina. Action is mechanically sound, the bores are good and the wood stocks are good with a crack in the underside of the forend & blemishes on the buttstock.
