Exxon Run With The Tiger Gasoline Ad c. 1985-90s
For your consideration is this Exxon, extra unleaded gas hanging advertisement circa 1985-1990s. Jersey Standard became Exxon Corporation in 1972 and in 1999 joined with Mobil Oil Corporation, formerly Socony-Vacuum Oil, to form Exxon Mobil Corporation. The tiger gained notoriety in the United States in 1959 when a writer for an advertisement came up with the now-famous slogan, "Put a tiger in your tank." Time Magazine dubbed 1964 "The Year of the Tiger Along Madison Avenue" due to the widespread popularity of the phrase that launched countless ads, jingles, and TV commercials. The poster shows a tiger jumping over a Chevrolet Cavalier RS while the top reads, "Run with the Tiger / Exxon ® Extra Unleaded" in yellow and white lettering. The poster shows a bright color scheme of red, pink, blue, yellow and orange throughout. There are plastic holders on the top and bottom to keep the poster flat when hanging. The poster shows good condition overall with some slight wear present from its age and use over the years but no signs of obvious damage is present. The poster measures 56 1/4" L x 30" W.
