Manufactured in 1903, this is an excellent example of one of the eight hammerless 8 gauge shotguns with 40 inch barrels produced by Parker Brothers. In the book The Parker Story, only 11 shotguns with 40 inch 8 gauge barrels are identified with 8 of them being hammerless like this example. This shotgun is listed in the book Parker Gun Identification and Serialization and confirms the serial number, NH grade, capped pistol grip stock, and 40 inch 8 gauge barrels. The shotgun has a single bead sight on a solid matte rib marked "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. TWIST." The barrels have an extractor. The barrel flat is stamped with the twist steel proof and the barrel weight ("9 4" indicating 9 pounds, 4 ounces). The barrel lug is stamped with the number "6" indicating that the frame is a size 6. The colossal size 6 frame was common for N Grade shotguns. The water table is stamped with the two line patent dates marking along the grade marking "N" over the serial number. The casehardened box lock receiver has the N Grade engraving with "PARKER BROS" on the side. The matching serial number is stamped on the water table, trigger guard and forearm hardware. The 1878 patent date is stamped on the forearm latch hardware. It is equipped with double triggers and a tang safety. Mounted with a nicely figured pistol grip stock with multi-point checkering on the forearm and grip area, blank initial shield near the stock toe, factory hard rubber grip cap, and factory dog head hard rubber buttplate. The length of pull is 14 1/4 inches. Consignor records state that this extremely rare shotgun has been in the consignor's family since 1957.

Serial Number: 128636
Condition: Very fine. The barrels retain 90% plus original brown twist pattern with loss at the muzzles and at the breech. There are some very scattered minor handling marks with a small patch of mild pitting on the left barrel near the muzzle. The trigger guard retains strong amounts of original blue in the protected areas, otherwise a gray patina. The receiver retains 75% original case colors. The wood is very fine with a number of minor handling marks. The checkering is crisp. This is the only NH Grade 8 gauge shotgun we have seen and with only 8 built, this is possibly the best known example.
