A whimsical piece by the Kirkpatrick brothers, "Shoo-Fly" flask circa 1865-70, The "Shoo-Fly" flask has a large figural of a black woman hanging on the neck of the flask with one hand and using her other hand to attempt to capture a large fly. She is sprawled up the side and over the shoulder of the flask with her legs spread wide to balance herself. Her skirt balloons away from the flask revealing her genitalia as a fly crawls toward her private uncovered area. Incised on the front of the flask "Shoo-fly" and on the back side of the flask between her legs incrised "Original Package." Salt glazed stoneware with cobalt and cold paint accents. Signed, "Anna Pottery/Anna, Ill" H 6 inches, W 4 1/2 inches, L 3 1/4 inches.
