Extremely Rare Lindner Patent First Type Breech loading Percussion Carbine
Designed and made by Edward Lindner of Manchester, New Hampshire, only 892 of the First Type carbines were made, with the entire run consumed by military contracts to the 1st Michigan Cavalry and 8th West Virginia Mounted Infantry. Fixed blade front sight and two-leaf folding rear sight mounted behind the breechblock, which is correctly marked on top "EDWARD LINDNER'S / PATENT / MARCH 29, 1859". There is a small "J" on the right side of the breechblock. An oval script inspection mark, "AM?", is stamped on the stock comb just ahead of the buttplate. The stock is oil-finished walnut, with a metal forearm tip and sling ring on the left stock flat. The left side of the buttstock is stamped with intertwined "V"s signifying issue to the West Virginia Mounted Infantry.

Condition: Near fine, with a crisp smooth brownish patina overall and a smooth grayish patina on the breechblock and lock. The stock is fine with some overall scattered minor scratches, dents and dings. Mechanically fine. A very nice, extremely rare 1st Type Lindner Carbine.
