The heavy barrel has a muzzle turned for a bullet starter with "44" stamped on the crown recess, marked "KLEPZIG/SAN FRANCISCO" on the upper left barrel flat and is equipped with a blade front sight and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The underside of the barrel is fitted with a solid rib with two ramrod pipes holding a brass tipped hickory ramrod. The plain lock plate is marked "KLEPZIG" and it is equipped with double set triggers. The half stock has checkering on the wrist and two barrel wedges (Hawken style) with oval German silver escutcheons. The rifle also shares another Hawken characteristic in that it has a reverve tapered top barrel tang. An additional German silver inlay is featured behind the scrolled and spurred trigger guard. The buttstock is fitted with an iron crescent buttplate with a cheekpiece on the left side and a plain patchbox on the right side.

Condition: Fine. The barrel has an attractive smooth brown patina with a darker patina on the remaining metal surfaces. The bolster has had the clean-out screw replaced with an allen head screw. The stock is fine with worn checkering and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
